5 Low Cost Meals That Are Absolutely Healthy

by | Nutrition

Jan 31, 2023

Dieting is often considered to be expensive. I can tell you boldly that this is a misconception. Eating well does not have to cost so much. In this article, I explore 5 low cost meals that are absolutely healthy for you.

1. Eggs

Eggs are one of the most nutritious foods there is. An egg typically contains everything you need, including essential proteins, vitamins, and antioxidants. The protein content of eggs can make you feel full for longer periods after you have had a whole egg.

And what is more, they are cheap. You can get an egg for just a couple of dollars and cook it to your taste. Eggs are very versatile and can go with a number of other recipes. You can have eggs for breakfast, lunch, and even dinner.

2. Fish

Seafood, like eggs, is very healthy. I recommend them on this list because of their high protein and low carb content. It is unlikely that you will gain much weight from eating fish alone and some other low-carb foods.

Fish like salmon contain a number of essential compounds like omega-3 fatty acids, which are anti-inflammatory and can help one cope with stress

3. Dairy products

Dairy products, compared to other foods, are relatively cheap, even though in some parts of the world, they just might cost much.

Like eggs and meat, dairy products can help with weight loss. Their high protein and low carb content can help the body use up its stored calories. It is no wonder why these foods are included in the keto diet.

You can have whole milk, or you can turn to take in yoghurt. They are almost the same thing.

Milk can also make a late-night snack. That is, drinking milk just before bedtime is not so much of a bad idea. (Read: Can Masturbation Help You Lose Weight?)

4. Whole Grain

Even though carbohydrates sort of have a bad name in the world of dieting, carbohydrates are essential for body functions, and you sure need some. Whole grains can be a source of carbohydrates for you.

I prefer whole grain over processed ones because the whole grain has not been branded, so it still contains the vital parts which are rich in fiber.

Have whole grain with any stew of your desire, or even better, just get creative around it.

I advise that you do not have too much grain, though, especially if you are trying to lose some pounds.

5. Leafy Vegetables

You need a lot of leafy vegetables to stay healthy. Leafy vegetables, most times, are low cost meals, and they do not contain that many carbohydrates. Still, they contain a lot of vitamins and antioxidants and can be helpful for your heart and gut health

Most vegetables do not cost much. Just a couple of dollars will do.

Bonus: another cheap food you should try include lean meat. This may not be so “cheap,” but it remains a rich source of protein.
